Massachusetts College of Art and Design teamed up with the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, as
Team Massachusetts for the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011.
The task was to design an energy-efficient home, what they call a 4D Home, where the fourth dimension is time, and the home adapts to users and environments over time.
Team Massachusetts, along with the other 18 teams from across the world, compete in ten contests in energy, design, and marketability assessments. The sustainable home was built in the New England area, disassembled, and reassembled on the Washington Mall in D.C. for the competition event during the month of September.
